Guatemala – Day 6

Today was bittersweet. It was our last day at Anini and our last full day in Guatemala.  We were very productive today and were able to look at some chairs in a room not previously seen by last year’s team.  We were also able to fabricate a chair for a “favorite” who we felt we had not previously done justice yesterday.

Carol felt so encouraged because the intern, Mauricio, was like a sponge and REALLY wants to do follow through in the baby room. They exchanged a lot of good ideas for things he can work with on each child. He is so motivated, and Carol feels encouraged that there will be good follow through with the children. It was hard to say goodbye to the kids and staff, and especially Mauricio.

However, the highlight was an afternoon meeting with Chris Mooney of Bethel Ministries, a man whose company makes and distributes wheelchairs all over Guatemala.  It was amazing, and he told us he would supply us with wheelchairs and mechanics and we could work together to help the children in the orphanages. He also mentioned assisting the farm communities with power chairs. We are all in awe at the way the Lord has gone before us. He cares for these children and this country more than we ever could, and we are just humbled to be a part of this story.
