It's Been a Beautiful Day!

There is nothing like a Rwandan sunrise. I, Eric, woke early and took a walk at the first light of the morning. Enjoying the cool mountain air, I greeted nuns on their way to morning chapel, and then enjoyed the sun peak between 2 mountains. (See the photo).

Afterwards, we all joined the brothers for breakfast of fresh baked bread and eggs, along with fresh tropical fruits. Following breakfast, we went to Butare to a sister clinic of the Brothers of Charity. Here we saw several children with Spastic CP mostly with UE and LE involvement. Kara lead a group of developmental therapists teaching the staff oral motor activities and basic speech initiation. You could see how excited they were to have these helpful tools!  Together Allison and Kara continued to train mothers and staff in oral motor, play skills and postural inputs.

Cara and Eric worked together to assess several young children with CP. Eric mainly focused on orthotic fitting, while Cara assessed trunk and UE issues, as well as pelvis stability and control. It was a busy morning, and by the the end everyone was recruited to fit orthotics. Following lunch, we prepared our lectures.  The presentations went well though the level of English amongst our friends varied. Most of the questions came after Kara's Speech Pathology presentation, as this is not a discipline they can provide at this time. Both our team and the Rwandan professionals are excited for tomorrow as we begin to treat together. They have asked us about several clients they would like us to see. The ladies and Brother Viatur decided to get a workout in before dinner to work off the Rwandan carbs smile We'll see if he is up to doing that again. Eric got his workout playing futbol with local guys from the neighborhood.

From the sunrise to the sweet smiles of the kids as we walked by, to the playful laugh of Brother Viatur, it's been a beautiful day.
